This Is Drawl

DRAWL is Liam Ward. Liam Ward is DRAWL. It's not really a secret identity, but it sounds more intriguing that way.

Liam is an Art Director and Motion Designer currently working at Sphere Studios, where he spends his days making imagery for one of the largest and strangest digital canvases on Earth. If you've seen the enormous glowing orb in Las Vegas doing something ridiculous, beautiful, surreal, or all three at once — that's the neighborhood.

His work lives at the intersection of design, motion, technology, music, and immersive entertainment, with projects for artists including Anyma, Backstreet Boys, Zac Brown Band, No Doubt, and Eminem. Creating visuals for Sphere means thinking a little differently: bigger scale, stranger formats, new pipelines, immersive environments, and significantly fewer rectangles.

Before Sphere, Liam bounced around the motion-design world working with studios like BUCK, ManVsMachine, Method, Brand New School, Timber, Laundry, and Hue&Cry. Along the way he's designed, animated, art directed, modeled, rendered, composited, rigged, illustrated, experimented, broken things, and occasionally figured out how to put them back together.

He's especially interested in what happens when good design collides with new technology — real-time graphics, immersive media, 3D workflows, AI tools, and whatever weird new thing shows up next.

Liam earned his BFA in Graphic Design from Virginia Commonwealth University and is currently based in Richmond, Virginia, after many years orbiting the motion-design universe.

His arsenal includes, but is not limited to, Cinema 4D, After Effects, Nuke, Redshift, Photoshop, Illustrator, and others (just ask) along with an irresponsible number of plugins.

Sphere keeps him plenty busy.

But if you've got something strange, ambitious, immersive, experimental, or just plain fun — it's probably worth saying hello.
